Fourth Week Reflection

“The difference between school and life? In school, you're taught a lesson and then given a test. In life, you're given a test that teaches you a lesson.” - Tom Bodett

My memory of taking tests is unforgettable.  When I was in middle school, I was caught talking to another student about submitting the English grammar test.  You can imagine the heat in my face when the teacher announced that I just received a "0."  No scoring nor feedback.  I can connect my personal experience and Chapter 3 in regards to giving feedback.  I agree that feedback is an important component in the construction of a classroom language test.

  1. I can relate in high school my teacher will assign us a huge essay after every quarter as a final quarter exam. Each time I wrote an essay on one of the books I read within the quarter I will never get feedback about my papers. Until one day at the end of the year, she handed us all our final essays and on them were little post its that was mainly her rubric. On it it had a grade for my grammar, thesis, etc. At that time, I understand why I was always getting an A- or B on my papers, but that sort of feedback was not what I was looking for. I wish she would have sat down with me and talked to me about how I could improve my writing. It was until my first year in college that I had a teacher who finally pointed out the mistakes I was making on my papers. So, yes! I agree that feedback is extremely important.
